Long Term Care Nurse Management Apprenticeship

WHAT: The Long Term Care (LTC) Nurse Management Apprenticeship is designed for Good Samaritan employees to provide enhanced training through on-line and self-study courses supported by mentors for on the job learning. Nurses who complete the training receive a nationally registered certificate of completion from the U.S. Department of Labor. Nurses may receive continuing education units for nurse license requirements.

This apprenticeship incorporates the coursework which is done with mentor supported on-the-job learning. Either a local mentor or a co-hort mentor group provides support.

AVAILABILITY: The apprenticeship is available to all Good Samaritan Society staff members who are LPNs or RNs in any of the following positions: charge nurse, infection control, MDS, staff development coordinator or QA Coordinator.

REQUIRED COURSES: The training consists of three courses. These are:
  1. Nursing Leadership and Management - on-line, 10-week course (GSS 101).
  2. Managing Daily Operations - on-line 10-week course (GSS 102).
  3. Leading with Spirit - printed curriculum available through Good Samaritan Society Supply Services.

The on-line courses are instructed by selected Good Samaritan Society nurses. Courses may be taken in any order. There is no time limit for completion other than each of the on-line courses must be completed within the 10-week course period. The courses are repeated periodically.
