Home Health Director Apprenticeship


WHAT: The Home Health Director Apprenticeship is designed for Good Samaritan employees to provide enhanced training through print based, on-line and self-study courses supported by mentors who enhance the on-the-job learning. Nurses who complete the training receive a nationally registered certificate of completion from the Department of Labor. The apprenticeship provides on-the-job learning through a performance based training model that enhances managerial skills and knowledge through competency based education. The coursework includes videos and self-study modules. On-the-job skills are developed through a mentoring structure that utilizes local area experts and/or mentor cohort groups.

AVAILABLE AREA: The training is designed for those either beginning a position as a home health agency director at any Good Samaritan sites, or preparing to do so.

REQUIRED COURSES: The training consists of approximately 140 hours of training. Topics include:
  1. OASIS Training for home health
  2. Beacon Health video series
  3. Marketing
  4. Outcome based quality improvement
  5. Financial management
  6. Leading with Spirit
  7. Continuous Quality Improvement
  8. Regulatory/HIPAA training
  9. Coding

Courses may be taken in any order.

APPLICATION/ENROLLMENT: Nurses employed by the Good Samaritan Society who wish to enroll must complete an apprentice agreement (enrollment form) indicating their position and have this signed by their supervisor. Fax or mail the agreement to the Learning Division at National Campus (605.362.3838).

COST: Course materials will be paid for by agency start up for those hired as new directors. Others should contact their consultant to determine who will pay for course materials.

TIME TO COMPLETE: Most will be able to complete in less than one year.
